Weekly Creative Space for Young People Launched in Ravenswood July 2025

Engaging Youth in Creative Activities
Starting Point Neighbourhood House has established a creative space specifically designed for young people aged 16 to 24 in Launceston, Tasmania. Beginning 25 July 2025, sessions are held every Friday from 2pm to 4pm at the Ravenswood Community Health Centre. The space is open to participants who want to bring their own creative projects or explore new activities in a relaxed, supportive environment.

This initiative offers youth a welcoming place to gather and connect, which can be significant in a regional community like Launceston. Rather than following a structured program, the approach is flexible—young people can choose how they wish to participate, whether that means continuing work on existing projects or trying something unfamiliar. This setup aligns with the aim to foster both individual creativity and communal interaction.

Building Community Connections
Local families and community members are among those who benefit most directly from this weekly gathering. Offering a consistent time and place for young people to express themselves creates opportunities for friendships and positive connections. The space provided by Starting Point Neighbourhood House is intended as a low-pressure environment, where participants are encouraged to be themselves and share their interests with others.

Feedback from those who have attended so far indicates that the creative space serves as more than just an activity drop-in—it is also a place to listen and be heard. For some, participation has meant overcoming hesitation around meeting new people, while for others, it is simply a welcome break in their weekly routine. Small changes, such as having a regular spot to visit, can make a difference in how young people feel about their role in the broader community.

Starting Point Neighbourhood House has emphasised that this contribution is ongoing and accessible. By hosting the sessions at a familiar and central venue like Ravenswood Community Health Centre, they have removed some barriers to participation. The organisation’s involvement demonstrates a grassroots approach to community support, primarily aiming to offer young people a safe and creative outlet in Launceston.
