Skills to Thrive Program Recognises Local Participants in Launceston

Supporting Practical Skill Development

In Launceston, Tasmania, Starting Point Neighbourhood House has played an active role in fostering skill development among community members. On March 1, 2025, the neighbourhood house held a presentation ceremony to recognise participants who completed the Skills to Thrive Program. Among them was Jacob Harding, one of eleven local residents to receive a certificate acknowledging his efforts.

Pathway to Everyday Support

The Skills to Thrive Program, delivered on site at the neighbourhood house, is designed to equip attendees with both practical employment and life skills. These skills include fundamental capabilities that can assist with finding work or navigating daily challenges. The program is structured to provide relevant and accessible training to people from the local community, with an emphasis on supporting families and individuals who benefit most from added guidance in these areas.

For participants like Jacob Harding, completion of the program marked a significant step toward greater confidence in their abilities. The presentation of certificates served not only as a celebration of their commitment but also as a signal of their newfound readiness to contribute to the workforce or take on personal goals. Starting Point Neighbourhood House was able to highlight how small scale, tailored programs can have tangible benefits for those involved.

A Community-Centred Approach

The impact of this program is practical and incremental. While it does not reach the scale of larger training or employment initiatives, it provides a meaningful framework for residents in Launceston to gain experience and build useful knowledge. By focusing on skill-building at a neighbourhood level, Starting Point Neighbourhood House reinforces its ongoing support for community wellbeing. The organisation’s direct engagement with local people supports both individual growth and, over time, the resilience of the wider community.

As the Skills to Thrive Program continues to offer opportunities for development, the neighbourhood house remains a central point for learning and recognition in Launceston.
