Multiple Volunteer Roles Opened at Starting Point for Community Support

In June 2025, Starting Point Neighbourhood House initiated a targeted recruitment effort to fill a series of volunteer roles in Launceston, Tasmania. The drive focused on engaging local residents who could contribute a few hours each week in positions including House-Keeper, Receptionist, Community Gardener, and Wheels4Work Learner Driver Mentor. These roles were designed to be accessible and varied, both in terms of interests and flexible scheduling, to broaden participation from a diverse group of community members.

How Residents Benefited

The volunteer opportunities provided by Starting Point Neighbourhood House directly benefited the broader community as well as those taking up the roles. The House-Keeper volunteers supported the upkeep and welcoming atmosphere of the Neighbourhood House on Mondays and Thursdays, as well as the Men’s Community Shed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Receptionists became the first point of contact on Mondays, ensuring visitors’ queries and needs were handled efficiently. The Community Gardener positions, set at Pioneer and MACS Gardens on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, enabled volunteers to help maintain local green spaces open for community use. In addition, the Wheels4Work Learner Driver Mentor role offered flexible hours and gave local residents the chance to guide learners through safe driving skills.

Observable Impact in Launceston

While the recruitment drive was ongoing, its effects were visible in small but meaningful ways. Community members reported a continued welcoming environment at the Neighbourhood House and associated community sites.
