In May 2026, Starting Point Neighbourhood House coordinated the delivery of several vital Mission Health services to the Launceston, Tasmania community. This effort brought together a range of professionals from A City Mission’s Mission Health initiative, ensuring local individuals and families could access essential health and support resources in one accessible location. Over that month, services included podiatry, optometry, physiotherapy, chiropractic care, Centrelink assistance, pharmacy consultation, and social work support. Local residents were able to interact directly with qualified professionals, removing barriers that often restrict timely healthcare access.

Accessible Support in One Place

The initiative addressed the challenges faced by many in the local area when it comes to reaching multiple forms of health and welfare support. By providing these services within the familiar community setting of Starting Point Neighbourhood House, the organisation helped to reduce both travel time and costs for residents. With expertise covering medical, optical, and pharmaceutical needs, as well as social and financial support, the schedule was designed to be as inclusive as possible. Centrelink and social worker drop-in times made it possible for community members to discuss pressing issues and seek practical solutions in a supportive environment.

Targeted Health Initiatives

As part of the May offerings, a dedicated Hepatitis C Testing Clinic was made available. To encourage participation and help address any hesitancy, each person who attended this clinic was offered a $20 voucher per test completed. This approach not only aimed to increase testing rates but also acknowledged the financial realities faced by some attendees. The voucher incentive helped offset costs, making the important step of testing more feasible for a broader range of people.
