IFE: Building the Next Generation of Electricians — and a Stronger Community

For more than 23 years, Industrial Fi  re & Electrical (IF&E) has grown, expanded and delivered major projects across Tasmania — but behind every milestone stands one constant: Peter Brumby’s unwavering belief in people. Long before the company became a statewide electrical leader, Peter understood something many overlook — a strong trade industry is built one apprentice at a time.

Today, IF&E employs 12 apprentices, continuing a tradition that has shaped the business since its earliest days. Over two decades, Peter has guided, trained, and developed dozens of young electricians who have gone on to build careers, support families, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. These aren’t just workers — they’re the next generation of Tasmanian tradespeople, carrying forward skills that keep industries running, homes safe, and communities functioning.

Creating Opportunities That Change Lives

Electrical apprenticeships are more than training programs; they’re long-term pathways. Every apprentice who comes through IF&E gains technical skills, industry experience, mentorship, and a sense of belonging to a team that wants them to succeed. Many who started under Peter’s leadership now work as qualified tradespeople, foremen, supervisors, or leaders in other organisations — a ripple effect of capability across the state.

Peter sees these outcomes not as business achievements, but as community wins. Every trained tradesperson becomes a productive contributor to society. Every one of them supports a household. And over the years, these careers help countless families build stability, opportunity and quality of life.

A Community-Minded Leader Behind a Community-Focused Company

Ask anyone who knows Peter, and you’ll hear the same thing: he’s community-driven to his core. His approach to apprenticeships isn’t just about filling labour needs — it’s about giving young people a future.

He understands that when a business invests in developing people, everyone benefits:

  • The individual gains a lifelong skill.

  • The workplace gains capability and loyalty.

  • The local community gains engaged, employed, contributing adults.

  • Tasmania gains a stronger, more sustainable trades workforce.

This philosophy is woven into how Peter runs IF&E. It’s why the company continues to grow. It’s why apprentices stay, thrive, and return as leaders. And it’s why IF&E is recognised as a company that gives back as much as it takes.

The Legacy Continues

After 23 years, Peter’s apprenticeship program is not slowing down — in fact, it’s ramping up. With 12 apprentices currently on staff and more planned in future, IF&E continues to be a launchpad for young Tasmanians seeking a stable, meaningful trade career.

It’s the kind of long-term investment that strengthens a workforce, stabilises families, and builds healthier communities. And it’s a reflection of Peter Brumby’s belief that success isn’t only measured in business metrics — it’s measured in the people you lift along the way.

In every apprentice who becomes qualified…
In every family supported by a reliable trade job…
In every contribution these electricians make across Tasmania…

Peter’s legacy shines through — quietly, steadily, and powerfully.
