Community Members Celebrate Completion of Skills to Thrive Program Together

Skills to Thrive: Program Completion Recognised in Launceston

On 1 March 2025, Starting Point Neighbourhood House marked the completion of its Skills to Thrive program with a group photo featuring around 25 people in Launceston, Tasmania. The photo included recent graduates holding their certificates, alongside staff members and various supporters who attended the event.

This moment captured the sense of achievement felt by participants, many of whom are local families and individuals eager to build new capabilities. The photo symbolises not just the end of a course, but the shared experience of learning and coming together as part of the broader Launceston community. For Starting Point Neighbourhood House, documenting the graduation provided participants with a visible acknowledgment of their growth and efforts.

Gathering Together: Participants, Staff, and Supporters

The atmosphere of the gathering was one of support and encouragement. Graduates stood alongside staff who guided them through the program, as well as members of the neighbourhood who contributed to or cheered on their progress. This public recognition helps many individuals feel seen and appreciated in their local environment. For some, it may well be the first time they have celebrated an achievement like this in front of others.

This photo also serves a wider purpose for the neighbourhood house. It records a moment of positive engagement, demonstrating that community organisations like Starting Point Neighbourhood House are places where practical outcomes and personal confidence are developed. While the direct impact is centred on the graduates, it also strengthens the reputation and visibility of community-based education in the region.

Continuing the Cycle of Community Education

By holding recognition ceremonies and sharing collective moments like this, Starting Point Neighbourhood House emphasises the value of community learning experiences in Launceston. It creates opportunities for local people to witness and take part in small-scale achievements. Though the scale is local, the focus on bringing people together and acknowledging their efforts has a direct and meaningful effect within the community.
