Employing and Training Local People

One of the most consistent ways Grant Chugg Plumbing contributes to the community is through local employment.

The business currently employs 38 staff members, many of whom live in and around Launceston. Each role within the company represents a household supported through stable work, with wages that circulate through the local economy.

Employment within the trades also creates long-term career opportunities for people in the region. Plumbing is a profession that requires skill, responsibility, and ongoing learning. By operating a stable business with a sizeable workforce, Grant Chugg Plumbing helps maintain a skilled workforce within northern Tasmania.

A key part of this is the company’s commitment to apprenticeships.

Six apprentices currently work within the organisation, learning their trade alongside experienced plumbers. Apprenticeships allow young people to develop practical skills while earning an income, and they provide a pathway into a stable profession.

Training apprentices requires time and patience from experienced staff members. Knowledge that has been built through years of hands-on work is passed down through day-to-day mentoring and supervision. Over time, apprentices become qualified tradespeople themselves.

For the company, this process is important not only for their own workforce but also for the wider community. Skilled trades are essential for maintaining homes, businesses, and infrastructure. Supporting apprentices helps ensure these skills continue to exist locally.

By employing and training people within the region, Grant Chugg Plumbing contributes to the long-term strength of the local workforce.
