Calm Down Kanga — Wellbeing Puppet Show for Young Families

What

GRCC funded a free wellbeing puppet show by Happy Habits targeting an audience of more than 12,000 people, intentionally catering for those with disabilities, those with English as a second language, and those in low socio-economic areas.

Who

Children and families across Launceston, particularly those with disabilities, CALD backgrounds, and low socio-economic circumstances.

Where

Launceston and surrounding region, Tasmania

When

2025/26 — completion expected June 2026

How It Helped

Emotional regulation is a foundational life skill, yet many children lack early exposure to the language and tools needed to manage big feelings. This puppet show gave young audiences a safe, imaginative space to explore those concepts. By modelling calming strategies through a relatable character, it helped children build self-awareness and coping skills that carry into school and home environments. Teachers and parents also benefited from shared vocabulary and techniques to reinforce the messages beyond the performance.
